Al-Dana Drama Award launched

Under the patronage of His Highness Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports First Deputy Chairman, General Sports Authority Chairman and Bahrain Olympic Committee President, the Ministry of Information has launched, in cooperation with the Gulf Radio and Television Organistion, the “Al-Dana Drama Award”, in conjunction with the 16th edition of the Gulf Radio and Television Festival, set to be hosted by the kingdom in May this year.

On the occasion, HH Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad stressed the importance of the kingdom’s hosting of the 16th Gulf Radio and Television Festival in unifying the media visions across the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), as well as in recognising creative GCC youth.

His Highness stressed that the launch of the “Al-Dana Drama Award” would motivate radio and television stars to be more creative in the drama field, stressing the pioneering status of the GCC drama.

HH Shaikh Khalid wished the festival’s officials and the participants in the award every success.

Dr. Ramzan bin Abdulla Al Noaimi, Information Minister, expressed thanks and gratitude to HH Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad for HH’s patronage of the Al-Dana Drama Award, reflecting HH’s constant support for radio and television creative people and artists.

Dr. Al Nuaimi indicated that the Information Ministry welcomes the hosting of the 16th edition of the Gulf Radio and Television Festival, affirming that it will harness all its potentials to ensure its success, based on its role in consolidating cooperation among public and private radio and television among GCC countries, as well in developing joint media production and encourage creative people. He wished the participants in the festival and the award every success.

Majri Mubarak Al Qahtani, the Director-General of the Gulf Radio and Television Organistion, expressed gratitude and appreciation to HH Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad for his support for the GCC Al-Dana Drama Award, paying tribute to the Information Minister for his keenness to ensure the success of the 16th edition of the Gulf Radio and Television Festival.

He affirmed that the prizes of the Al-Dana Drama Award would foster creativity and excellence, as they will be added to the festival’s awards, noting that since its inception in 1980, the Gulf Radio and Television Festival has established itself as a major media and artistic event for pioneers and stars, as well as a platform to discover creative people.

It is to be noted that nominations for the Al-Dana Drama Award will remain open until April 25. Entries shall be submitted to the Gulf Radio and Television Festival’s website via the following link: https://gulf-festival.com

A jury comprising senior GCC and Arab critics and artists will evaluate the entries and announce the winners on May 9.

Lucky winners will be honoured during the closing ceremony of the 16th Gulf Radio and Television Festival, set to take place in Bahrain on May 28-30.

The “Al Dana Drama Award”, with cash prizes estimated at $110,000, will be granted in nine categories, namely the Best Dramatic Work (Social Series, Comedy Series), the Best Actor in a Leading Role, the Best Actress in a Leading Role, the Best Rising Actor (Young Actor, Young Actress), the Best Soundtrack, the Best Script, and the Best Director.
